About Mutsumi Hyuga, LCSW
Mutsumi Hyuga is a licensed clinical social worker with deep experience supporting children, adolescents, and families navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, PTSD, ODD, DMDD, and other emotional challenges. Her approach is strength-based, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive — always tailored to the unique needs of each client.
Originally from Japan, Mutsumi moved to the U.S. to pursue a career in the creative arts. After graduating from Hunter College in New York, she spent decades as an Art Director in publishing, while also coaching swimmers for local USA and high school teams. Her work with children and families sparked a deeper calling, leading her to earn her Master of Social Work from the University of Denver in 2020.
Mutsumi’s clinical experience includes supporting foster youth and families through Children’s Community Programs of Connecticut in New Haven. Her services included initial assessments, FFT-FC model-adherent family and individual sessions, safety planning, crisis management, and collaboration with schools, DCF, and other providers. She became a fully certified Functional Family Therapy Therapist in 2024.
In her practice, Mutsumi integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Mindfulness techniques to help clients build emotional regulation skills and find balance in their lives. As a mother, wife, daughter, swim coach, and immigrant, she embraces a person-in-environment perspective and honors the unique strengths each individual brings.
Mutsumi is here to walk alongside you — with compassion, creativity, and clinical expertise. Ready to take the next step toward emotional wellness? Let’s begin together.
